[The teacher] - So now, you all have different origins, right?
What origins do we have here?
Algérien, Haïtien, Turc, Marocain, Italien, ouh , le cocktail !
Algerian, Haitian, Turkish, Moroccan, Italian, wow, what a cocktail!
Et qui est français ?
And who is French?
[Les élèves] - On est tous français !
[The pupils] - We are all French!
[Le maître] - Il y a une hésitation.
[The teacher] - There is hesitation.
[A pupil] - Sir, everyone is French!
[Le maître] - Oui... exactement.
[The teacher] - Yes exactly.
But why was there hesitation at one point?
Alors, je vous écoute.
So, I'm listening to you.
[A pupil] - My grandfather is 100% Algerian and my grandmother is 100% French, my father is 100% Algerian and my mother is 50% French and Algerian.
Donc ça fait 25 % français !
[The teacher] - Ah ah, but that's great!
Well, at the same time, do you think that there is someone in France who comes from the Gaul, the very pure, 100% French?
[Les élèves] - Non ! Si ! [Le maître] - Pourquoi ? Non il n'y en a pas.
[Pupils] - No! Yes! [The teacher] - Why? No there is not.
[A pupil] - There are plenty who say they are are only French!
[The teacher] - When you go to the countries of your grandparents or of your original family, are you a little embarrassed not to be 100% from there?
Levez la main en toute honnêteté.
Raise your hand honestly.
Who is a little embarrassed during the holidays not to be 100% from this country?
Nos deux Mohamed.
Our two Mohamed.
[A pupil] - As soon as we are there, they speak only Algerian and we speak in French and ...
[The teacher] - And yet there is Algerian blood in your veins.
Donc c'est un peu frustrant.
So it's a little frustrating.
But there is also the story of... well it's members of my family who are very close and then we do not understand each other, what, it's annoying!
[A pupil] - Yes because I tried to talk to them but they do not understand me, they tell me other words that I do not know.
[The teacher] - Okay. It is also up to us to learn the language of the different countries of our families.
We are in a very modern world where things have evolved enormously.
Formerly, a Breton who went to Normandy - well even now, in a way it is always terrible for a Breton to go to Normandy, but hey - he can still agree to live with the Normand and discuss with him.
Mais vous savez, il y a cent ans ce n'était pas du tout le cas.
But you know, a hundred years ago that was not the case at all.
Actuellement c'est très différent.
Currently it's very different.
You end up in situations a lot further away.
Vous avez d'autres cultures.
You have other cultures.
I have a little nephew, he was born in China.
Yeah, my cousin married a Chinese, well now... Well here it is.
So there is something... The Chinese are yet another culture.
